Yummy Homemade Applesauce Recipe by, Melissa McAllister Super Technical Guys…..Peel, core and slice up about 10 apples.  Plop in a large pot with 1/4 cup white sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, squeezed lemon juice from 1 lemon, 3/4 cup water and 1 tsp. of cinnamon. Cover, bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer until apples are tender.  Remove from heat, mash with potato masher.  I think it is the best when served warm!!  Enjoy, now you only have 9,550 lbs. of apples...

Balance As We Age: Use It Or Lose It

Written by Melissa McAllister There are so many types of balance that we can strive for…emotional, work/life, our diet, with our kids and families or in our friendships…but I am talking about the actual falling over or standing upright kind of balance. We have all lost it at one point, our balance that is, and it can be frightening, especially is you lose your footing and actually fall.  This can sometimes be a devastating event for older folks.   As a personal trainer, I witness the importance of balance, especially in my older clients.  It really is something we should all be incorporating into our exercise routines. The good news is balance can and should be worked on just like any other exercise, to improve your everyday activities and give you increased confidence.  Just like the title says, you have to use it or you will lose it! All of our senses are used when sending a message to the brain on whether we are balanced or not.  Certain factors like age, specific medications, certain diseases all can inhibit one’s balance but we can get it back!!
